TORONTO STAR REDESIGN

Led a major redesign that refreshed the paper’s look while respecting its long-standing identity and diverse readership. In collaboration with Fadi Yaacoub, Vice President of Design at Torstar, we created a strategic reimagining of The Toronto Star’s print edition – honouring its legacy while looking to the future. The project marked the final print redesign in the paper’s 130-year history.

The redesign introduced a cleaner, more contemporary layout with generous white space and carefully cropped photography. A new design team – Art Director Becky Guthrie, with designers Suzan Kao, Ramon Ferreira, and Shruti Bhatnagar – also brought fresh energy to the paper.

This design approach extended across Torstar’s regional dailies and has earned dozens of Awards of Excellence from the International Society for News Design.

The design was supported by templates, style guides, and staff training.

'As usual, early this morning, I sat down and started reading today’s print copy of the Star. I suddenly realized that my eyes seem to be working really well.
I thought maybe the light was better or perhaps my glasses were cleaner.

Then I realized this paper is different.
Congratulations to the team responsible
for the new design refresh.
